In early November, Shoestring Adventures teamed up with Outdoor Discovery School for an unforgettable weekend adventure in Ojai, California, just 90 minutes north of Los Angeles.
We arrived at Wheeler Gorge Campground Friday afternoon and got to know one another over a delicious dinner prepared by camp chef Alex. Fire restrictions prevented us from having a campfire, but we gathered around a lantern just the same. After dessert, we turned our gazes to the stars. Everyone brought out their cameras for the night photography workshop. I was so proud of all the beautiful photos we made!
The next morning, we fueled up on breakfast and prepared for the 9-mi out-and-back hike through Matilija Canyon. The creek beds were mostly dry, but the canyon was bursting with fall color, including bright red poison oak! Once we reached Middle Matilija Camp, we took a few moments to dip our toes in the water and share our gratitude for new friends before turning around.
Upon returning to the campground, we stretched out with some relaxing yoga with Sara of The Super Sisters. After another satisfying dinner, we spent the evening playing Apples to Apples and enjoying good company around the lantern.
Though I swear I did not plan it, I’m glad to share this adventure with you on Thanksgiving Day. This trip was a three year culmination of passion and hard work, and I owe a big thanks to Alex of Outdoor Discovery School for his mentorship, which gave me the courage to make it happen.
I would also like to thank my amazing new friends who joined us for the weekend. I hope to share another adventure with you soon!
Finally, thank you to my family, friends and followers for your invaluable support always. I am extremely blessed.
Wishing you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving weekend!
